GroundworksTrenchingUKCDM 2015Draft v1
1

Scope of works

This RAMS covers trenching carried out by groundworks operatives on a UK construction or maintenance site. It sets out the method, the principal hazards and the control measures to be applied. Site-specific details (address, client, access, dates and supervisor) are completed for each job before the document is issued for principal-contractor review.

Sequence of works

  1. 1Obtain and review service drawings; scan and mark the area
  2. 2Set out exclusion zones and install support/battering as designed
  3. 3Excavate progressively, hand-digging near located services
  4. 4Inspect supports and atmosphere before any entry
  5. 5Backfill and reinstate; remove plant under banksman control
3

Hazards, risk rating & controls

Risk = likelihood × severity (1–25). Initial is before controls; residual is with controls applied.
