Scope of works
This RAMS covers soft strip carried out by demolition operatives on a UK construction or maintenance site. It sets out the method, the principal hazards and the control measures to be applied. Site-specific details (address, client, access, dates and supervisor) are completed for each job before the document is issued for principal-contractor review.
Sequence of works
- 1Review structural and asbestos surveys; agree the sequence
- 2Isolate services and set up exclusion zones
- 3Soft strip, then demolish in the planned controlled sequence
- 4Suppress dust and manage waste segregation
- 5Inspect the area and confirm stability throughout
Hazards, risk rating & controls
Risk = likelihood × severity (1–25). Initial is before controls; residual is with controls applied.
Premature / uncontrolled structural collapse
Who’s at risk: Operatives, Public, Other trades
- › Demolition sequence designed by a competent person; structural survey reviewed
- › Exclusion zones and monitoring during the works
- › Top-down, controlled sequence; no undermining of supporting elements
Disturbance of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs)
Who’s at risk: Operatives, Other trades
- › Refurbishment & demolition asbestos survey reviewed before work
- › Stop work and report if suspected ACMs are found
- › Licensed contractor engaged for licensable asbestos work
